Intern Farewell: Crystal Pino

Didn’t we just start?! (I still haven’t been to Indochine!) It feels like I’ve been here for such a short time, but I think about my experiences and what I’ve gained from interning at CoWork Jax and I realize I’ve learned enough to fill an entire summer and then some.

Aside from my intern desk, the media:scape room was my favorite spot

I could ramble on about my new found social media knowledge or my understanding of professional communication etiquette, but I want to focus on the one (and most beautiful) thing I learned during my time at CoWork Jax: Collaboration.

The absolute farthest thing from a quiet cubicle farm, you’ll here people chatting business or sharing funny videos throughout the day. And maybe at first you wonder how anyone accomplishes anything when they repeatedly pause their work to talk, but in reality the people working here are more efficient, focused and creative. On many occasions I was asked by members about how I liked an idea or if an event existed would I go. At first I was shocked that someone who runs their own business would think to ask the intern for suggestions on something other than coffee. What could I know? But in time this became a common exchange.

The time I took a selfie and Governor Rick Scott was in it. No big deal.

When I started here I was told that this internship could be whatever I wanted it to be. In that moment I just nodded and smiled because that’s what you do on your first day of work. But this statement was true. I wanted to better understand coworking, utilize the communications classes I’ve taken, explore professional use of social media and simply experience what it means to be an adult and go to work in the morning. I learned everything I had hoped to (except how to be a morning person), and I realize that I could not have been so successful on my own.

Just like the members at CoWork Jax, I benefited from collaborating with those around me and in the end I’m leaving with so much more skill and knowledge than I could have ever developed by sitting in a cubicle alone.
